JOHN B. SANFILIPPO & SON, INC. LETTER OF INTENT WITH NAVARRO PECAN COMPANY TERMINATED

Elk Grove Village, IL, November 23, 2001 - John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. (Nasdaq: JBSS) today announced that the letter of intent of August 24, 2001 to acquire all the shares of Navarro Pecan Company, Inc. has been terminated. The parties were unable to reach a definitive agreement within the ninety-day time frame set forth in the letter of intent.

John B. Sanfilippo & Son, Inc. is a processor, packager, marketer and distributor of shelled and in-shell nuts and sesame sticks that are sold under a variety of private labels and under the company's Evon's®, Fisher®, Snack 'N Serve Nut Bowl™, Sunshine Country®, Flavor Tree® and Texas Pride™ brand names. The company also markets and distributes a diverse product line of other food and snack items.
